Someone once said, "Thousands of years ago, cats were worshipped as gods. Cats have never forgotten this." Being in the presence of most cats, even for five minutes, offers proof to these words.However, living with a cat tends to yield opportunities that people who are deprived of the joys of owning a cat never get to experience. Some cat owners have managed to "train" their cats to acquire some semblance of a repertoire of "tricks."
The best example of this can be found at cat agility shows. That's right...someone, somewhere, decided it would be a good idea to throw a cat on an agility course usually reserved for dogs and watch the fur fly.
According to the article published by USA Today, some cats ran the course in as little as 14.5 seconds while some, in true cat form, stopped for a bath mid-course.
There are no restrictions for using a feather toy to entice a feline through the obstacles, as seen on showcatsonline.com. This is common practice and the cats seem to enjoy that this form of play employs two things every cat loves: running like they've seen death and feathers.
After reading this story, the temptation to set up a course for my cat is building. I have a feeling my cat would be less than amused but then again...feathers could change that.
